Unalienable rights, still feel Alien to many

Life – Liberty – Pursuit of Happiness .

While participating in the George Floyd protests it was apparent that many people feel as if the foundational pillars of America, are still a pipe dream some 200 years after the countries inception. In 1982 Ronald Reagan implemented a Bill known as Qualified Immunity to insure that during the ‘War on Drugs” (which would be later announced on October 14) police would be allowed to violate basic human rights in the name of the law. This Bill and the War on Drugs would go on to spawn the sort of friction between the post civil rights minority community, and the police – as an extension of the government. Although many of these aspects Spawn from slavery and the days of Jim Crow, it is important to acknowledge the strides our Democracy has made to develop the nation – Civil Rights wasn’t a finish line, it was a turning point – as the Pursuit of happiness is also a journey and not a destination. I think that it is important to stand up for Human Rights, and because Human rights are being violated pertaining to the African America Demographic, it is essential these instances are magnified. Cases such as Rayshard Brooks, George Floyd, and Breonna Taylor, will not only change the lives of African Americans in America, but the way the government as a whole functions.

Minnesotas Freedom fund raised $30 millions dollars for protestors in a city that saw The National Guard help implement a curfew that would lead to protestors and others caught in a temporary tyrannical system. While only allocating $200 Thousands to said protestors and others arrested for their part in the George Floyd movement, It would be naive of me to sit and blame the entire systematical oppression on those openly racist who disregard the need to Magnify Black Lives Matter. 12 years after Qualified Immunity was implemented, the Crime Bill of 1994 would fund minority incarceration growth and the prison complex we have today. A new form of Slavery and Cheap labor would be pipelined from poverty stricken areas to the new plantations.

Recently Trump and some of his most loyal Republicans ( Tim Scott R-S.C., was joined by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., Sens. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., John Cornyn, R-Texas, Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., James Lankford, R-Okla. and Ben Sasse, R-Neb) have introduced an 106 page JUSTICE ACT which is focused on giving incentives and funding to police units that do not violate human rights. “Human Rights are not things that should be incentivized” is probably the first thing that comes to mind when reading that statement, and completely defeats the notion that “Life-Liberty-And the Pursuit of Happiness” are unalienable in the first place. While Republicans enjoy pointing out how Democrats have participated in the systematic oppression much like Biden has on policy like the 1994 crime Bill, they introduce policy that not only devalues human life, but suggests that the constitution isn’t as important to them as they would like you to believe unless its used to solely benefit them.

Democrats have already unveiled their police reform legislation that’s called the Justice in Policing Act. That legislation would lower the bar for police officers to face criminal prosecution by allowing charges not just in cases where alleged misconduct was intentional, but also in cases of reckless misconduct. It would also ban chokeholds, create a national database of cops who committed misconduct, boost police training and reform qualified immunity that can protect cops from lawsuits from victims of police brutality.

Scott’s bill doesn’t ban chokeholds outright and doesn’t end qualified immunity. Democrats have already panned the legislation as not going far enough – Fox News
